This prototype design was created for the master’s thesis project by Liz Wood and Andre Gizenga-Ehiwe.

Colour and emotion recognition technology:
a look at its effects on ASD

Research suggests that placing colour filters on an image of a facial expression can increase the recognition and retention of emotions. We decided to apply this theory on top of real-time facial recognition technology developed by Affectiva.

Prototype Image

How it works

There are two aspects to this prototype:

1

The first is a physical prototype in the form of an Android app that demonstrates the functionality of linking emotion recognition to a colour filter (see video).

2

The second is the imagined product, which would incorporate a setup process where the user would define their own colour system. This setup process is shown in the prototype image.
